Magnet Alternator
These
PMA's have been made from remanufactured GM alternators. They each
have a very strong neodymium magnet,
specially wound stator, new bearings. These are the PMA's that we
use in our Mallard systems and have such wonderful results from.
This PMA is specially made to work with low RPMs which makes it
ideal for wind power. We can build these in 12, 24 or 48 volt.
Stats
for our PMAs
Testing
is done on a drill press as high as it will go. We cannot get higher
RPMs because it bogs down the press at this point. Testing is done
with a full load and is not actual battery charge.

Quick Charge PMA-
This PMA
is specially designed for higher RPMs and is to be used with a gas
or diesel engine for quick charging your battery pack. Thicker stator
windings and permanent magnet combine to make a great fast charging
back up DC generator. The picture on the left shows how it can be
mounted to an old lawn mower engine. Simply hook this PMA up to
a 3-3.5HP engine using a 3-1/2" pulley or to a 5HP engine using
a 4" pulley. You can use any size of engine, larger than 3HP,
by experimenting with the pulley size to get the best results for
the engine that you are using. I have even seen people use car and
truck engines. If the size of pulley is too big, it will stall
the engine when hooked to the battery. If this happens use a smaller
pulley. Check with amp meter when setting the speed of your engine/pulley
system. If you cannot find the pulley at your local hardware store
we can direct you to a website that sells many sizes of pulleys.
In our testing with a 5HP engine and 4" pulley we got 49 volts
(open volts) and 30 amps (in to battery)
Do not run at more than 50 amps so that you can preserve the life
of the stator.
PMA is made with thicker stator windings to handle higher speeds.
However the higher RPMs required by this system do mean that it
will not work well in a standard wind generator application.
We show
two different type of engines that can be used.
First, Mike used an old lawn mower. He mounted the PMA to the
side of the frame and attached the belt to the shaft that would
be used for the lawnmower blades. You can run the belt out through
the side or back of the lawnmower through the shoot that usually
holds the grass catcher. Or you can cut a hole from the frame to
run the belt through.
Next, Mike took an old pressure washer from the shop and removed
the pump. The engine was still in good shape so Mike then mounted
the PMA to the frame and use a belt and pulley to drive the PMA.
You can also use an old mini bike engine.
Both of these
work really well because you can easily move the charger. You can
wheel the unit right out to your battery pack. Or best of all, you
can even wheel it out to your car when you have a dead battery for
an instant jump start! No more relying on your neighbor to come
jump start your car.
TIP- Use battery
jumper cables to attach to your batteries. Cut the ends off of one
end of the jumper cables. Attach those ends to your PMA quick charger.
Then use the clamps on the opposite ends to easily attach to the
battery pack or car battery when you need to charge them.

Buss
Bars for easy connections
We are now
offering an easy way to hook all of your wind generators and solar
panels in to the same battery pack. This system takes the confusion
out of battery pack wiring. Follow our easy to use instructions
and hook up your wind generators, solar panels, batteries, inverter
and even diversion loads straight to the buss bars. Do be sure to
mount to a non-conductive surface such as wood posts or insulate
if you do need to mount to a metal frame.
The great
thing about this system is that there is room for expansion. As
you add more wind generators, solar panels or batteries you have
space to connect them to your existing system.
You will receive
two buss bars, one is for the positive connections and one is for
the negative connections. Each bar is 36" long. You are purchasing
the metal buss bars only. The picture with battery cables connected
is for demonstration purposes. The cables are not included. You
can purchase the battery cables at the local auto parts store. You
hook them up to your own batteries.
If you are
using 6 volt batteries let us know and we will provide the correct
instructions.
