Photo of our November 2009 class We would like to express our appreciation to Stirling and Kristen for providing us with some of these photos that they took during the workshop. For even more details of what we teach see our photos from our other workshops May 2010
Mike, teaching the class about different types of alternators
Hoot and Randall learning how to put new bearings in to the alternators
Mike taught our students how to build a permanent magnet alternator (PMA) wind generator from start to finish
After the wind generators are built they are tested on the test truck.
The students then installed the PMA wind generator.
They also learned how to build larger axial flux wind generators. We have several test stands for demonstrating and understanding the process of winding and building the wind generator.
They learned how to use magnets and wind copper magnet wire to produce electricity. Here, Cash is learning how to use the magnets to build a wind generator. During our workshop you will practice what you learn with lots of hands on experience.
Here is part of the class helping to put the axial flux generator on the truck for testing.
The class members each go out in the truck to test the power produced by the wind generator that they, as a class, have built.
Here they are putting the axial flux generator up on the tower.
It is quite a sense of accomplishment to look at the work that you have personally done, completed and up in the air.
In our workshop we also teach you how to install solar power, how to wire the battery pack and the inverter.
You will be taught techniques for building wind generator blades. Here we show PVC blades and aluminum blades.
Here Kristen is showing the stator that she was building. You will practice winding the stators for PMA type wind generators and axial flux wind generators. If you have any questions about the workshops please contact us. info@mikeswindmillshop.com or 928-532-1607
"You can't beat hands-on learning! The small class size makes for an informative & interactive experience. I learned a lot. Thanks!" ~ Cash
"Mike knows off grid systems better than anyone I know. If you don't understand he takes the time & makes sure you get it" ~ Calvin
"This was more than enough information to get us started with a simple system. Mike has a way not only of doing things simply, but also explains things simply. Mike's vast practical experience is the reason the course is so effective" ~Stirling
"I'm so glad I got to attend this workshop. I learned so much more than I thought I would" ~ Kristen "Thank you so much! I really appreciated being able to make the generators. I learn better with "hands on" activities and this class was full of those. Even with my limited knowledge of alternative power and electricity I was able to understand and participate. I would recommend this experience to anyone. This is a way that helps me feel more secure for my future because I can do something to use my environment as a benefit for my family. Awesome class and teacher!" ~ Michelle
